It all started with cycling – and shortly after, Patrick's wish to better understand his own training data. The first recordings ran across various platforms, but more systems quickly followed. Keeping all that data maintained at once was an enormous effort.
Then came the break in October 2018 – quite literally: a serious cycling accident with multiple broken bones meant not only a long time off, but also a lot of time to think. And to analyze. For the first time, the collected data landed in its own database – the evaluations followed promptly. But it quickly became clear: the data was often faulty and inconsistent. The realization: this was no way to draw reliable conclusions about one's own health and sports data.
What followed was the step into building it himself – at first just for personal use, but soon for friends and acquaintances too. The platform grew – not out of a plan, but out of curiosity, enjoyment of the craft, and the wish to create real solutions for real problems.
No constraints, no feature lists. Just build, test, improve. This gave rise to approaches and solutions that would never have been asked for in typical development projects at large companies – but that is exactly what makes this platform what it is.
After Patrick achieved his first successes with the platform, he decided to build a team to keep driving the vision forward. From his professional network he brought in friends and acquaintances, starting with Dung as an experienced tester. Shortly after, Fabian, himself a triathlete and coach, reached out to Patrick. The exchange quickly grew into a close friendship, and ever since, Fabian has brought valuable perspectives from training and practice to obseed.
Then came Claude, Patrick's brother, adding technical depth when it comes to processing data. Then Daniel, whose hands built the iOS app for obseed, and finally David, whose expertise lies in analyzing user behavior.
With growing domain knowledge and clear requirements, the decision was made: the platform would be rebuilt from the ground up – with a modern tech stack and solid architecture. Today, obseed is the result of that change.
